Tata Motors will be out in full force at the Auto Expo 2018, showcasing the direction the company is going to take with its product portfolio. The company is talking about the “future integrated mobility solutions.” Tata Motors sent out a video message from CEO and MD Guenter Butschek, in which you can see three of the models under wraps.

So what is Tata likely to showcase at Auto Expo 2018? From what can be seen in the video, there is likely to be a sedan, a large hatchback, and a compact SUV. Tata is also working quite aggressively on electric motors for different models, so some of these concept models may also sport electric power trains.

Going by various spy shots and media reports, and correlating it with what is being teased in the video, here is what Tata is likely to showcase at the Expo.

Tata is working on a premium hatchback that will compete with the likes of the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20. The car is codenamed X451 and will be based on a new modular platform. It will be a fairly large hatchback, going by spy shots of the car testing. It is likely to have the same engine choices as the Tata Nexon – a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre diesel. It is likely to be shown in concept form at the Expo, although test mules have been travelling around the country.

Another spy shot that has been doing the rounds of the internet is that of an upcoming SUV from Tata, that looks a lot like a Land Rover Discovery Sport from some angles. This is also the SUV that Tata had codenamed the Q501, and will borrow quite heavily from Jaguar Land Rover in terms of design concept and also some of the platform components, according to reports.

Some say, it could also use the two-litre diesel engine from Fiat (Tata shares a plant with Fiat in Ranjangaon, which makes the Jeep Compass as well as Tata Nexon). The spy shots show the Q501/H5 being tested using a Discovery body shell.

Tata Light Commercial Truck

The third of the concepts likely to be shown at the Expo is a light commercial vehicle. The Tata Ace and Tata Magic are highly popular entry level commercial vehicles. Tata is said to be building one more LCV, which could be a step up from these light goods carriers.

Besides these, Tata is also likely to showcase a new sedan based on the Tigor – and since it is betting heavily on future mobility, expect to see some electric versions of its upcoming and new cars at the Expo.
