The three-party talks between Tata Motors and striking workers of Sanand plant, mediated by labour department of Gujarat failed to reach new grounds ahead of 4-week agitation planned by workers of Tata Nano plant.

According to Indian Express report, Tata had asked for a signed assurance from 70% workers that the outcome of further negotiations will be unanimously accepted by them. With the talks failed, the workers are planning to organise a mega protest rally outside Sanand GIDC gate no 2.

The rally will reportedly consist of around 400 striking workers, 22 representatives of central and city based trade unions and farmers from nearby villages.

The announcement of protest comes a day after Tata Nano worker’s union registered themselves at Gujarat labour department as ‘Bhartiya Kamdar Ekta Sangh Sanand’. The company Tata, however, has said that they have not received any official message about the registration of a union for their Sanand plant.

A press release by Tata motors said:

Tata Motors thanks the DLC Ahmedabad for mediating when he called the meeting with the worker representatives to resolve this illegal strike. The meeting concluded with the understanding that the adhoc Workmen Committee will tomorrow(Friday) submit the authorisation that clearly shows at least 70 per cent of the striking workmen authorised this committee for future negotiations, with a meeting planned for next week.

Gujarat labour department, however, plans for another round of three-party meeting between the Tata Motor officials and the workers on 21 March. The workers have reportedly agreed to get required signature of striking workers by then.
