Dhoni Played a Very Slow Innings vs Afghanistan: Shoaib Akhtar
Shoaib Akhtar congratulated the Indian bowlers and especially Mohammad Shami for taking a hat-trick in the game.
India won a nail-biting contest on Saturday, 22 June, after their batting line-up was tested by the Afghan bowlers in Southampton. Electing to bat first after wining the toss, India were restricted to 224/8 as no one barring Indian skipper Virat Kohli made any substantial contribution.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar spoke about India’s batting performance in the game on his official YouTube channel. Criticising the Indian batting line-up, Akhtar said that India had narrowly dodged a bullet against Afghanistan. He further said that he was disappointed with MS Dhoni’s batting performance whom he thought played ‘very very slow’.
Speaking about India’s performance against Afghanistan, Akhtar said “India played really well in the game, but also gave an opportunity to Afghanistan to comeback into the game. Their batting line-up failed miserably apart from Virat Kohli. My personal favourite MS Dhoni played a very very slow innings. I can understand the pitch had variable but India played too many dot balls in their innings.”
“Thanks to Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya’s innings or else India would have been in a spot of bother. So, India managed to dodge a bullet against Afghanistan.”Shoaib Akhtar
He further said that, if India would have lost the match, they would have come under a lot of pressure and speculation from the media.
“India would have been under extreme pressure and speculation from the media which neither the Indian fans nor I would want. However, we saw a good match, Afghanistan played well, fought back and made a comeback into the game and gave India a tough time in the game.”Shoaib Akhtar
He also said that had India lost the match, the there would have been several question marks on the team’s performance had they lost the game.
Akhtar congratulated the Indian bowlers and especially Mohammad Shami for taking a hat-trick in the game. He hailed Bumrah by as one of the top-notch Indian bowlers and said that Shami’s raw pace makes him an x-factor for India.
He said that this was far from a clinical performance by the Indian team. England too received a shock after losing to Sri Lanka. He further said that the big teams of the tournament need to figure out how to go forward in the tournament.
He concluded by saying that, the Asian teams will make a comeback in the tournament.
