South African bowler Chris Morris said he would have been the head coach had he known the reason for South Africa's string of defeats in the ongoing World Cup.

South Africa have already lost three successive games against hosts England, Bangladesh and now India, needing to win at least five of the six remaining games in order to be in contention for a semi-final spot.

Asked to pinpoint a reason for the defeats, Morris sarcastically replied, "if I had the answer I would be the head coach of the national side.”

Morris was speaking at the post-match press conference where he also added that opportunities during the game were present, but it was not on the Proteas' side.

"The opportunities were there. Unfortunately, it didn't go for us today. We created our chances. I thought we bowled really well with the new ball. And the guys came in and did their job. End of the day, an Indian team that is that good, to take 48 overs to get 220 shows how well we bowled," Morris said.

Morris was not originally a part of the squad and after being included as a replacement, his was the best performance (42 runs and MS Dhoni’s wicket) for the Proteas on Wednesday.

India Bowled Well: Hashim Amla

Meanwhile, South African batsman, Hashim Amla said that India bowled well, adding "it was unfortunate they lost their way later on."

"Yeah, it was a good ball. Obviously you don't know how the wicket is playing early days, but as I said India bowled pretty well. We got partnerships going to claw it back but unfortunately lost our way later on."
