‘Foot Fault on Serena Match Point’: Twitter Calls Out Umpire

Serena Williams was knocked out in the quarters of the Australian Open following a foot fault call on match point.

Serena Williams had fought her way from a set down to take the 2019 Australian Open quarter-final against Karolina Pliskova to a third set.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion was serving for the match at 5-1 when she was called for a foot-fault, and it all went sideways from. Pliskova won six straight games to close the match at 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 — fighting off three match points on her own serve.

Serena Williams knocked out of yet another Grand Slam following yet another suspect call. While this time Serena did not approach the chair umpire or ask for a review, her fans on Twitter was having none of it.

these umpires and line judges just HAVE to insert themselves into the match. there was no need for that foot fault on match point. in my mind, serena won this match. i’m not disappointed at all. just frustrated. bye.

Unbelievable the umpire called a foot fault on match point when she aced it. Seems to always happen to her. 😡 If not for that, the match was over and Serena wouldn’t have injured her ankle. Such a disappointing way for her to lose. 😢
