Salman Khan was named as the official goodwill ambassador for the Indian Olympics Contingent for Rio 2016.
The controversial announcement triggered strong opposition from prominent sportspersons such as Milkha Singh and Yogeshwar Dutt.

But despite the outrage, the Olympics committee has remained firm in their decision.

Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij also criticised the decision and backed star wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt for the post.

Indian Olympic Association should have appointed some renowned Indian sportsman to represent India in Rio Olympics. Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt has brought many laurels for the country in wrestling.

Recently Yogeshwar Dutt had said that appointing Salman Khan as goodwill ambassador of Indian contingent for Rio Olympics 2016 was not a good decision.

Virat Kohli declined to comment on the issue, claiming that he did not know the details.

However, fans were surprised when prominent sportspersons like Abhinav Bindra came out in full-fledged support for Khan on Twitter.

While the sports industry remains divided on this issue, Bollywood personalities such as Hema Malini and Suniel Shetty expressed their support for their fellow actor.
