Popular sportswear brand Nike unveiled India’s 2019 World Cup jersey in the presence of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues and Prithvi Shaw in Hyderabad on Friday.

While the players seemed impressed with the design innovations in their new kit, Indian cricket fans on Twitter however didn't have too many nice words for the jersey that, for the first time, sports two shades of blue.

The new Indian jersey sports a light blue at the back and a darker shade in front. There’s also a mention of India’s two World Cup titles and the one World T20 title on the inside of the jersey, as an ode to the team’s greatest victories.

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni said the fabric of the jersey had stood out for him. “You may have many designs but ultimately it’s the fabric that really makes you feel comfortable. Wearing it (the jersey) right now, it feels so comfortable like you’re not wearing anything at all, so it doesn't wear you down,” said Dhoni.

Virat Kohli too was all praise for the new kit saying it was the best Indian jersey he had worn in the last 10 years.

While the cricketers gave their feedback based more on the comfort of the material used, the new jersey brought out the fashion critic in most fans on Twitter who did not approve of the new design.

Critiques ranged from “looks soaked in water” to “where’s the green of the tricolor”.
