Delhi Capitals won their opening match of the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League, and some asked if this was indeed the beginning of a new era for the franchise.
Twelves matches later, and the question to that answer would be a definite yes. Because for the first time since 2012, the Delhi franchise has managed to reach the knockout stages of the Indian Premier League.
With new co-owners on board, Delhi Daredevils had been renamed Delhi Capitals at the start of this season.
With a 16-run win over Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday, 28 April, Delhi Capitals reached the IPL playoffs after 7 years.
Captain Shreyas Iyer on Instagram wrote, “Feels soooo good to make it to the playoffs, collective effort by the whole team and coaching staff. A big thank you to the fans for their continued support”.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan wrote, “You guys make the magic happen! Victory feels special all thanks to you”.
Bowler Ishant Sharma wrote, “With a great win and maximum team effort it feels wonderful to see DC reach the playoffs!! All about team spirit”.
Assistant coach Mohammad Kaif wrote, ‘Yay ! Into the PlayOffs after 7 years. What a happy feeling ! Great effort by the team and amazing support from @DelhiCapitals fans despite the heat at Kotla’.
In a video posted by DC, bowler Amit Mishra said, "Bahut hi acchhi feeling hai’ (It’s a very good feeling).
