Australia strangled top-ranked England by 64 runs at Lord's on Tuesday, 25 June, and ratcheted up the pressure on the home side to be the first team to qualify for the semi-finals.

As the top order batsmen collapsed in front of the Aussie bowling, fans were disappointed by their performance.

Former English cricketer Kevin Pietersen also commented on skipper Eoin Morgan’s performance in the match. Pietersen was talking about Morgan facing a delivery by Mitchell Starc.

He tweeted:

Morgan was asked about it in the post match presser and he gave a firm response.

“Really? Excellent! I didn’t feel like that at all.”

“I’ve not seen a captain show such a weakness for a while,” Pietersen said in another tweet.

Later on, Pietersen clarified this comment on the skipper in another tweet. He added a video of Morgan facing a Mitchell delivery:

The hosts were already two wickets down when skipper Morgan came out to bat in the fourth over.

He could only manage 4 runs from 7 deliveries before falling for Mitchell Starc’s ball.

With three consecutive losses out of their seven games, they will have to win both of their remaining matches against India and New Zealand to confirm a place in the semifinals. Australia became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals, standing at the top of the points table.
