The Supreme Court recently cancelled Amrapali Group’s registration after complaints revealed that it had diverted home buyers’ money to different firms.

MS Dhoni and wife Sakshi came into limelight when auditors looking into the Amrapali Group revealed that the firm had diverted money to Amrapali Mahi Developers Private Limited and Rhiti Sports Management Private Limited, the director of which is Sakshi Dhoni.

A day after the judgment, on Wednesday, 24 July, MS Dhoni began his two-month training with Indian Army's Parachute Regiment.

This overlapping of events has triggered many on social media to opine that Dhoni sporting the Army uniform is “a convenient way” to shield himself from the backlash he received.

One Twitter user said Dhoni asking to train with Army for the first time after becoming Lt Colonel in 2011 “makes sense now”.

‘Indian Army Being Used’

“Why did Indian Army allow itself to be used in such a way?” asked another Twitter user.

Twitter user Geekster said Dhoni is going to be a drain on Army’s resources.

‘Dhoni Being Wrongly Hailed’

One Twitter user added that there has “never been a more controversial cricketer” than Dhoni, and that Army service is "all eyewash”.

“Patriotism is the last resort of a scoundrel,” read another tweet.

There were also opinions that Dhoni is being celebrated on a day when he should be facing the press for his Amrapali dealings.

‘Will He Join BJP?’

“I won’t be surprised even he ends up being a BJP leader anytime soon,” said one Twitter user.

“MS Dhoni may join BJP (officially) and stand for elections in Jharkhand,” said another Twitter user.

Some jokes made the rounds too.
