Wimbledon 2015: Sharapova, Djoker, Wawrinka Make it To Next Round

Novak Djokovic

Defending champion Novak Djokovic made short work of Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen in the third round of Wimbledon 2015. Down a break at 3-1 in the first set, defending champion Novak Djokovic kept his cool on the hottest day in Wimbledon history – 41.2 degree celsius.

Running off 13 points in a row, Djokovic seized command and stayed in front the rest of the way on Centre Court as he beat Nieminen 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday to reach the third round of Wimbledon on a sweltering day at the All England Club.

While Russian ace tennis star was never troubled by Dutch world number 123 Richel Hogenkamp in her 6-3, 6-1 victory, but Sharapova’s serve was ragged all day as after she served three successive double faults to lose serve to love.

Serena Williams was excellent on Centre Court on Wednesday as she swept aside big-serving Hungarian Timea Babos 6-4, 6-1 inside an hour on Wednesday to reach the Wimbledon third round. Williams’s next opponent will be Heather Watson, the only British woman to reach the second round.

I’m definitely playing well. I had to pick up my game today. She has such a huge serve.

French Open champion Stan Wawrinka moved to the third round after defeating Dominican Estrella Burgos in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 on Wednesday.

The world No 4 set to face Spaniard Fernando Verdasco next.

Venus Williams

US tennis star Venus Williams joined her sister Serena in the third round on Wednesday by beating Kazakistan’s Yulia Putintseva 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Another win for each sister and they would meet in the fourth round. The sisters have played each other 25 times, with Serena winning 14 of them.
