Chief National coach Pullela Gopichand is all geared up to set up a world class Badminton Academy at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida. Gopichand, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) and Sportzlive came together on 20 July to sign the agreement for the academy.

This is my first academy in this part of the country and we look forward to promoting the badminton culture here. This academy will be modelled on the excellence centre we have built in Hyderabad and over the next few years we expect talented players to emerge out of here too.

The academy, managed by Sportzlive, a Sports Management company, intends to become a centre of excellence to nurture the talent of the region. The academy has an area of about 30,000 square feet and will have about 8 courts. The indoor stadium can accommodate about 4,300 audiences making it one of the most spectacular academies in this part of the world. The academy is likely to become operational by early October this year.
