Sachin Tendulkar, in an episode of Breakfast With Champions with Gaurav Kapur, spoke about his love for cricket, how he managed his passion for the sport as a child, growing up in Mumbai, and even how he managed to identify Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s potential as the future captain of the Indian cricket team.

As the video continues, Kapur also introduces us to a brief segment with Sunil Gavaskar.

Gavskar describes the first time he saw the Master Blaster play.

I said I’d seen something special after watching him play. The way he was toying with the fast bowlers, and fast bowlers bowl from 18 yards, not from 22 yards. The way he was toying with it, I said there’s something special about it.

Tendulkar talked about the important innings’ in his cricketing career, the ones that changed his life.

I think my triple hundred at Brabourne Stadium was one of the most important innings of my life. That’s when Mr Gavaskar saw me. That’s when all the big personalities came to see me.

Tendulkar went on to describe funny anecdotes from his life, describing how, after being late for the bus one time and making his seniors wait for him, he made a habit of setting his watch around seven to eight minutes faster than his teammates at all times.

He recalled the time he ate seven wada pavs and described how the team pranked Sourav Ganguly.

Dada was sleeping in the room. It was early in the morning. We opened the door, and poured a bucket of water into the room. He was used to all kinds of pranks from us.

He explained how he saw Dhoni’s talent and potential to be India’s captain after watching him play on the field and talking to him about different plays.

Whenever I was fielding, I’d be discussing fielding positions with him constantly. I would tell him my opinion and ask him what he thought about it. It was during these interactions that I picked up on his leadership ability.
