Back in the Rajasthan Royals setup after being banned in 2018, Steven Smith (left) is excited to play with Jos Buttler during IPL 2019.

Steven Smith is back from exile – at least IPL-wise – and he can’t wait to get started again with the Rajasthan Royals.

The former Australia captain, who finishes his one-year ban for ball-tampering at the end of March, has joined up with the Royals for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Among the many things Smith looks forward to during IPL 2019, one is the chance to play alongside Jos Buttler – who the Aussie reckons is among the “most destructive” batsmen in the world.

Playing alongside Buttler will be great, batting with him makes things easier for me. He’s an exciting player and one of the most destructive batters around the world. I’m really excited to play with him.”

Smith shared his thoughts on a variety of subjects during a live interaction on the franchise’s social media platform on Monday, 18 March. He appeared to have settled in nicely after reaching his team in Jaipur a day previously.

The 29-year-old had featured for Rajasthan in two seasons, even captaining the side in IPL 2015, but will be playing as a Royal at their fortress – Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium – for the first time.

“It will be great... Never got a chance to play in Jaipur with the Royals, I’m sure the fans will come out in big numbers and support us.”

Rajasthan Royals – winners of the inaugural IPL in 2008 – begin their 2019 campaign at home, against Kings XI Punjab on Monday, 25 March.
