Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow broke a host of records as England declared at 629 for six before South Africa replied with 141 for two at the close of play on the second day of the second Test at Newlands on Sunday.

Stokes hammered the fastest 250 in Test cricket in a 399-run world-record partnership for the sixth wicket with Bairstow, who was 150 not out after scoring his first Test hundred.

Here’s a look at Ben Stokes’ extra-ordinary innings.

Ben Stokes started his innings quietly. He reached his fifty in 70 balls with seven fours and one six.

After his fifty he began scoring at a brisk pace.

The Durham lad scored his hundred in 105 balls. His tally of boundaries went up to 16 fours and one six.

Stokes got to 150 in the next 30 balls after scoring his hundred.

The 24-year-old went on to register the second fastest double century ever and the fastest 250 in the history of Test cricket. He hit 30 fours and eleven sixes in his innings of 258 off 198 balls.
