In Pics: Rohit’s 98 Powers India to Big Win vs WI in WT20 Warm-Up
Yes, Mohammed Shami finally played a match for India.
India: 185 for 6 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 98 not out; Jerome Taylor 2/26, Sulieman Benn 2/30)
West Indies: 140 all out in 19.2 overs (Chris Gayle 20; Pawan Negi 2/15)
The World Cup starts next week and hosts India started their preparations with a 45-run victory over West Indies in their first warm-up game.
Despite all 15 players being part of the squad, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma came out to bat at the top.
The opening pair added 32 runs on the board before Shikhar Dhawan’s stumps were claimed by Suleiman Benn.
Rohit Sharma though wasn’t going anywhere...
The Mumbai batsman reached his half-century in 37 deliveries, smashing a six and a four to get to the landmark.
Ajinkya Rahane, in at 3, didn’t manage to advocate his case too well - out for a 10-ball-7....
...Making way for Yuvraj Singh to join Rohit in the middle.
Yuvraj ultimately fell for 31, the second-highest score in the team, as India eventually wrapped up their innings on 185.
West Indies’ Reply
Chris Gayle walked out first for West Indies with Johnson Charles for company
Yes, Mohammad Shami did finally step on the field in an Indian jersey. The first time since the ICC World Cup last year.
36 runs for the opening partnership and the man-of-the-moment Jasprit Bumrah casteled Chris Gayle.
3 boundaries and 1 maximum went into the opener’s 11-ball-20. His score was also the highest in the Windies team-sheet.
Number 3 bat Marlon Samuels stuck around for a bit but then Ravindra Jadeja got impatient to get on the board and sent his bails flying.
Samuels went for 17 with the team’s score at 72/4 after 11.2 overs.
Mohammad Shami made it a memorable comeback, picking two wickets.
Also finishing with a haul of 2 each were Jadeja, Pandya and Negi.
West Indies ultimately folded for 140 as India picked up their first(though unofficial) win of the World T20 campaign.
