In Pics: KKR Beat Kings XI Punjab by Six Wickets
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to bowl against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on a pitch that looked very flat. Both teams fielded an unchanged squad from their last match.
Manan Vohra and Murali Vijay tried giving the home team a steady start but owing to the Kolkata bowling attack, they lost Vohra early on, with just 21 on the board.
Vijay and Shaun Marsh then tried to steady the innings, but the opener totally missed a googly of Piyush Chawla and hence KXIP lost their second wicket.
With the run rate running as low as 5.91 until the 12th over, the pressure kept on mounting over KXIP and succumbing to this, they lost their third wicket in the form of Wriddhiman Shah for just 8 runs.
The home team was given no chance to settle as even Yusuf Pathan picked a wicket of the first delivery which he bowled in this year’s IPL. He dismissed captain Miller for just six runs.
Shaun Marsh was the only batsman who held on as wickets continued to fall at the other end. The Australian scored his half century in just 40 deliveries and posted a respectable total of 138/8
Chasing 139 to win, KKR openers Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir gave the visitors a blazing start with Uthappa hitting his half century in just 24 balls. The duo brought up 72 runs on the board in just 7 overs.
Uthappa was finally dismissed for 53 by Sahu while Gambhir was caught by Maxwell off Sahu bowling again for 34.
The foundation was well laid by the openers, but the batsman who followed next did not quite manage to keep up with the momentum as Kolkata lost three wickets quite cheaply.
But Surya Kumar Yadav and Yusuf Pathan got KKR home safely as they beat KXIP by 6 wickets.
