Virat Kohli became the fastest cricketer to score 10,000 ODI runs during the second ODI against West Indies in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record, achieving the feat in 205 innings.

The Delhi batsman has stepped up time and time again for India and has been the torch bearer of the Indian batting line up in the past couple of years.

The Quint takes a look at his top five innings across all formats to celebrate his career so far.

1. 116 v Australia, Adelaide, January 2011-12

Virat Kohli has amassed 34 hundreds across all formats so far in his career but the first Test hundred is the most special one for any cricketer.

Kohli, who was just finding his feet in the Test arena then, showed his mettle when he constructed one of the most classical Test hundreds.

With the likes of Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman failing around him, Virat hung on and never let his concentration drop.

The Delhi lad smashed 11 fours and a six against a bowling attack which included Ben Hilfenhaus, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon.

2. 133* v Sri Lanka, Hobart, 2011-12

This innings by Virat Kohli will certainly go down as one of the greatest One-Day innings ever.

India needed to chase down Sri Lanka’s total of 320 in 40 overs in order to keep their hopes alive for the CB tri-series final. After Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar got India off to a good start, Kohli took over and completely ransacked the Sri Lankan attack.

He smoked 16 fours and two sixes to take India to a memorable 7-wicket win.

3. 169 v Australia, Melbourne, 2014-15

While chasing Australia’s mammoth first innings score of 530, Virat Kohli stepped up yet again. He struck a huge partnership of 262 runs with Ajinkya Rahane to help India get close to the Baggy Greens’ total and eventually draw their first away Test against Australia in 7 Tests.

Kohli hit 18 fours against the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris and notched up his highest Test score so far.

4. 141 v Australia, Adelaide, 2014-15

Taking charge as India’s Test captain for the first time, Virat Kohli led from the front and almost scripted one of India’s greatest Test victories. But, unfortunately it was not to be.

Kohli continued from where he left off in the second innings after scoring a blistering 115 in the first innings. The delhi boy strung a huge partnership of 185 runs with Murali Vijay which got India within reach of Australia’s target of 364.

But after Vijay departed, Kohli took the responsibility and kept inching India closer. As wickets fell around him, Virat had to go for more shots which ultimately contributed to his downfall and Australia won the match by 48 runs.

5. 123 v New Zealand, Napier, 2013-14

Virat Kohli yet again had to lead India’s charge single-handely while chasing New Zealand’s total of 292. As wickets were tumbling around him, the Delhi lad kept finding a way to keep the boundaries flowing.

But due to lack of partners at the other end, Kohli had to play a rash shot outside the off-stump and India fell short by 24 runs.
