After an FIR was registered against cricketer Mohammed Shami under sections of the Indian Penal Code, in an attempt to murder and torture his wife. Hasin Jahan told the media on Sunday, 11 March, that Shami would have divorced her by now if she did not get the mobile phone.

I tried to convince him that he should accept his mistake. I have been trying for a very long time. He would have run away to UP by now if I did not catch hold of that mobile phone. He would have divorced me by now if I did not have the mobile phone.

Claiming that Shami is “making up all sorts of things to save himself from allegations”, Jahan further questioned the media for not investigating, even after she gave them all the details.

Till the day I took to social media, I tried to convince him to save our marriage. If he tries to come back, I may still consider.

Meanwhile, Shami on Sunday asserted that he wants the matter between the two to get resolved by talking.

If this matter can be solved by talking, nothing would be better than that. Only patch-up will be good for us and our daughter. If I have to go to Kolkata to solve the matter, I will. I am ready to talk, whenever she wants.

On the other hand, Hasin Jahan’s ex-husband also spoke to the media about the controversy.

Earlier, the Kolkata police had booked Shami, and four of his family members, under various non-bailable and bailable sections, based on his wife’s complaint of domestic violence and infidelity. The cricketer’s brother had been also been booked with an additional charge of sexual assault.

The case was registered under non-bailable sections 307 (attempt to murder), 498-A (subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 376 (punishment for rape), Kolkata Police Joint CP (Crime) Praveen Tripathi said.

The five have also been booked under bailable sections 323 (causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) among others, he said.

On Thursday, 8 March, Hasin Jahan had also alleged that Shami was involved in match fixing, to which the cricketer had responded saying he would “rather die than cheat his country”.
