Team India faced a major setback when pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the upcoming Test series against South Africa on Tuesday, 24 September, due to a stress fracture in his lower back.
Fellow paceman Umesh Yadav replaced him in the squad for the three-match series beginning in Visakhapatnam from 2 October.
Bumrah, who is yet to play a Test on Indian soil, took to twitter to share his feelings with fans post the announcement.
He said that injuries are part and parcel of the game and that he’d be aiming for a strong comeback. “Injuries are part & parcel of the sport. Thank you for all your recovery wishes. My head is held high & I am aiming for a comeback that’s stronger than the setback,” wrote Bumrah in a tweet.
Bumrah has picked up 62 wickets in just 12 Tests and was magical in the recent tour of the West Indies, where he scalped 13 wickets in two Tests, including a hat-trick.
Bumrah is also the first Asian pacer to take five-wicket hauls in South Africa, England, Australia and the West Indies, besides becoming the fastest Indian fast bowler to 50 Test wickets.
After the opener in Visakhapatnam, the remaining two Tests of the India-South Africa series are scheduled to be held in Pune (10 to 14 October) and Ranchi (19 to 23 October). Earlier in the tour, the three-match T20I series ended in a draw after the opening game was abandoned due to heavy rain at Dharamshala.
