Shikhar Dhawan smashed a career best 92 to guide India to a thrilling six-wicket win over the Windies in the third and final T20 International, thus completing a 3-0 clean sweep in Chennai on Sunday.
Nicholas Pooran (53*) and Darren Bravo (43*) set up the match nicely when they helped the visitors post a fighting total of 181/3, but Dhawan and Rishabh Pant (58) ensured that India were the winners in the end.
Ahead of the T20I series, India had won the Test series 2-0 and ODI series 3-1. Here’s a look at all the records broken by the Men in Blue during Windies’ tour of India.
Team India unearthed a sensation in the very first fixture of the tour when young Prithvi Shaw scored a century on Test debut. Team India had had its struggles with opening batsmen for the major part of this year, but this teenager who grabbed the opportunity with both hands; 18-year old Prithvi Shaw struck a fluent stroke-filled 134 - his runs coming off 154 balls.
Shaw not only became the youngest debutant opener to score a century, but also became the youngest-ever Indian opener to score a Test hundred.
Shaw, just 18 years and 329 days old, broke a record that stood in Madhav Apte's name for nearly 65 years.
On the very first morning of his international career, Shaw also entered the record books becoming the youngest Indian to score a Test hundred against the Windies.
Courtesy Shaw's 134 at the top, hundreds from captain Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja and several other supporting performances, Team India declared their first innings at 649-9. Later on, the Team India bowlers dismissed the visitors twice in succession - needing a little under 100 overs both both innings put together; Team India registered its biggest win in Test history - improving on a record which was set in the previous home Test match against Afghanistan.
Team India polished off the second Test match in three days too - on this occasion winning by 10 wickets. The star performer in the Hyderabad Test was Umesh Yadav, who returned figures of 6-88 and 4-45 - the first 10-wicket match haul by an Indian pacer in Test matches at home since Javagal Srinath's 13-132 against Pakistan at the Eden Gardens in 1999.
Yadav's match returns of 10-133 - his maiden 10-wicket haul in Test cricket - would be the best returns by an Indian fast bowler in home Test matches against the Windies.
The 2-0 series win against the Windies was India's 10th consecutive Test series win at home - which equaled the record for the most consecutive Test series wins at home.
When the two teams locked horns in the first of the 5 ODIs, opener Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli combined to power Team India to a win in the first ODI. The second-wicket pair stitched together a 246-run partnership which helped Team India chase down a target of 323 quite comfortably; Team India won the first ODI by 8 wickets with 47 balls to spare.
After being involved in the 246-run opening partnership in the 1st ODI, Rohit Sharma would partner Ambati Rayudu in yet another massive partnership - this one worth 211 runs with Ambati Rayudu in the 4th ODI. Rohit Sharma would become the first player in ODIs to be involved in 5 different partnerships of 200 runs or more.
After scoring 157* in the 2nd ODI and 107 in the 3rd ODI, Virat Kohli:
- became the first Indian batsman to score 100s in 3 consecutive ODIs
- became the first batsman in the world to score hundreds in 4 consecutive ODIs at home
Virat also rewrote the record and became the player to score the most ODIs 100s against the Windies.
After his 157 not out in the second ODI, Virat Kohli smashed the record for becoming the quickest to post 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year; he needed only 11 innings to get to the milestone in the year 2018.
By virtue of scoring 152 not out in the first ODI and 162 in the 4th ODI of the series, Rohit Sharma became the first Indian cricketer - and only the second cricketer in history - to post two scores of 150 or more in the same ODI series.
Heading into the 4th ODI, the teams, who tied the second ODI, were level at 1-1. In the 4th ODI played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, Team India took a 2-1 lead - thereby ensuring they could not lose the series - by defeating the visitors comprehensively; Team India won the 4th ODI by 224 runs - their biggest win in ODIs at home.
Team India would clinch the ODI series 3-1 after they defeated the visitors in the 5th ODI - played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram; after dismissing the visitors for 104, Team India knocked off the target in 14.5 overs, winning by 9 wickets - their most convincing win in ODIs at home.
Rohit Sharma scored 111 not out in 2nd T20I and became the first player to score 4 hundreds in T20 Internationals.
After stitching together a 123-run opening partnership in the 2nd T20I, he and Shikhar Dhawan became the most-productive partnership in T20Is.
