MS Dhoni has been unavailable for selection since end of the World Cup in July. He has missed three series since then for various reasons but according to BCCI sources cited by The Indian Express, Dhoni is suffering from a back injury and which is preventing him from playing.

For the West Indies series it was said that MS Dhoni, who is also an honorary Lieutenant Colonel, had a two-week stint with the Para Regiment of the Indian Army in Kashmir after the World Cup and that is the reason he had to miss the West Indies series.

After returning from Kashmir post his military camp training, Dhoni went on a sabbatical from cricket.

The wicket-keeper batsman was also not a part of the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa at home. He is also expected to miss the Bangladesh series. Many are upset with him for backing out before every series.

Many former cricketers and experts have given their opinion on the matter saying that Dhoni has to take a call now because delaying his retirement won’t do any good to him or the Indian Cricket.

According to The Indian Express, BCCI sources also cited that Dhoni went into the World Cup with an injured back which was aggravated as the tournament progressed. The right-handed batsman also picked up a wrist injury during the World Cup, the report added.

If all these reports are to be believed then the earliest he can now make a comeback to the Indian side will be when Windies visit India for a T20I series in December.
