Stoinis on Why Axar Batted Ahead of Manoj Tiwary in KXIP vs RR
Kings XI Punjab’s Marcus Stoinis felt KL Rahul’s 84-run knock against Rajasthan Royals was his best innings.
KL Rahul’s 54-ball 84 helped Kings XI Punjab beat Rajasthan Royals by six wickets, and his teammate Marcus Stoinis thinks it was the openers’ best innings. Rahul’s unbeaten half-century after young off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman's exploits with the ball helped KXIP chase 153 with 6 wickets in hand and 8 balls remaining.
I don’t know what you guys think but I think that was his best innings. That’s what the best players do, they win the games and that’s what he’s done today. He understood the situation, he understood the wicket and he batted accordingly.KL Rahul
Rahul and Marcus Stoinis (23 not out) shared unconquered 68 runs for the fifth wicket to comfortably take Kings XI past the winning margin and enable their side climb up to the third spot in the points table. On his role in the Kings XI Punjab, the Aussie cricketer said, “At the moment, it’s to be adaptable, understand how the game’s flowing and then be ready to go in. Sometimes I have the opportunity to go in earlier, but in the last couple of games it’s been pushed back. So not a clear cut role yet but that’s probably what we’re figuring out right now”.
On Kings XI Punjab sending Axar Patel ahead of Manoj Tiwary, Stoinis said:
Axar in the past has been one of our best players or our best player in the last 3 years. The team was discussing that this guy enjoys responsibility, plays well under pressure and he bowled amazingly tonight, and he’s obviously a good fielder.
“He enjoys the pressure so the plan was to give him a chance under the circumstances and let him show us what he can do,” he added.
