Lauderhill: The Only Cricket Stadium in the USA in Numbers

In 2016, India played a T20I series in Lauderhill, they lost the first match while the second one was abandoned.

Back on the field after their World Cup debacle, Team India will start their preparations for next year's World T20 in the first T20I of the three-match series against the West Indies at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill in Florida on Saturday.

The Central Broward Regional Park Stadium is the only cricket ground in the United States of America and this is not the first time that it will host a cricket match.

The first time a T20I was played here was n 2010 between West Indies and New Zealand. The last instance of it was exactly a year ago when it hosted two T20I match between West Indies and Bangladesh.

India also has played here on two occasions in August 2016.

Here’s some trivia about the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhil which will host the first two T20Is between India and West Indies:

  • The India vs West Indies encounter played at this venue on August 27, 2016, had produced a match aggregate of 489 for ten wickets, thanks to both sides reaching 240-plus - West Indies 245/6 and India 244/4. The said aggregate is a world record in T20Is.
  • Thirty two sixes were recorded in the above T20I - 21 in the West Indies' innings and eleven in India's run-chase - to establish a record in this format. The same is now a joint-record for most sixes in a T20I as New Zealand vs Australia encounter played at Auckland on February 16, 2018 also produced 32 sixes.
  • Evin Lewis (100) and Lokesh Rahul (110 not out) in the Lauderhill match on August 27, 2016 provide the only instance of two centuries in a Twenty20 International.
  • Lokesh Rahul had taken 46 balls to reach his hundred during his unbeaten 110, which is a joint-quickest century against the West Indies in T20Is. South Africa's Faf du Plessis had also taken 46 balls to race to his hundred during his superb knock of 119 off 56 balls vs West Indies at Johannesburg on January 11, 2015.
  • Six matches out of seven have been won by the sides batting first at this venue in T20Is while one match between India and West Indies on August 28, 2016, could not produce a result due to weather.
  • Sunil Narine had produced a career-best 4 for 12 (his only four-wicket haul in T20Is) vs New Zealand on July 1, 2012 - the only instance of a four-wicket instance at Lauderhill.
  • Pacers have taken 56 wickets at 27.17 runs apiece as compared to 36 at 19.91 by spinners at this venue.
