After sorry start, India did well to finish with 297 in their first innings against West Indies on second day of the first Test in North Sound in Antigua on Friday, 23 August.

Starting Day 2 at 203/6, India lost Rishabh Pant early but Ravindra Jadeja batted smartly with the tail to bring up his 11th Test fifty before he was dismissed for 58. Apart from a Jadeja, Ishant Sharma chipped in with a 62-ball 19 as the duo shared an important 60-run stand for the eighth wicket.

Earlier, West Indies had won the toss and put India into bat. India were off to a dreaded start, losing Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara and skipper Virat Kohli with only 26 runs on the board.

Some patient and circumspect batting from opener KL Rahul and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane brought India back in the match. In the process Rahane brought up his 18th Test half-century before getting out for 81.
