The toss of the second Test between India and New Zealand in Mumbai was delayed by two and a half hours due to a wet outfield but finally, play is set to get underway at 12pm IST.

Virat Kohli, returning to action after resting for the first Test, has won the toss and elected to bat first.

"Looks like a really nice wicket, nice and hard early on and not much grass on it. Today, with the sun out, we presume the first innings is going to be the best time to bat. Jayant Yadav comes in for (Ravindra) Jadeja. We just have to do more of the basics that we did in Kanpur as well," said Kohli at the toss.

"New Zealand did really well to stick out for a draw (in Kanpur). You have to accept when the opposition plays well. Knowing that we know that if we play good cricket at home we'll be able to seize the opportunity," added Kohli.

New Zealand are being captained by Tom Latham after Kane Williamson has been ruled out due to an injury.

"We definitely would have had a bat. But it has been under covers for a few days so maybe we'll get something out of it. The way we got the ball to swing in Kanpur was good; hopefully it swings here as well. Kanpur was really boosting for us, losing the toss and coming away with a draw at the last minute. We know this will be a different surface so important we try to adapt as quickly as we can. Daryl Mitchell in for Kane Williamson," said Latham.

India have been forced to make three changes to the squad with Virat Kohli returning, but also due to injuries to Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma. Siraj and Jayant Yadav are the two other players who have been added to the playing XI.

'Fast bowler Ishant Sharma dislocated his left little finger during the final day of the 1st Test match in Kanpur. He is thus ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. The BCCI Medical team will continue to monitor his progress,' said the board's press released this morning.

'All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja suffered a right forearm injury during the 1st Test match in Kanpur. After undergoing scans, he was diagnosed with a swelling on his forearm. He has been advised rest and is thus ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai.

Ajinkya Rahane sustained a minor left hamstring strain while fielding on the final day of the 1st Test match in Kanpur. Since he has not recovered completely, he has been ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. His progress will be closely monitored by the BCCI Medical team,' the release added.

New Zealand too have one big change in their team with Kane Williamson ruled out of the match, leaving the team to be led by Tom Latham.

'Coach Gary Stead confirmed the injury had flared-up during the first Test in Kanpur and with it failing to improve in the days following the match - the call was made to rule the captain out,' said a release posted by New Zealand Cricket on their website.
