Skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane struck fluent fifties to help India recover from the early jolts in the morning session as the visitors reached 307/6 at Stumps on Day 1 of the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Saturday.

Kohli (97) and Rahane (81) strung a partnership of 159 runs after Chris Woakes had dismissed India’s top three batsmen. The visitors had just 82 runs on the board before Rahane walked out to bat.

Stuart Broad and Adil Rashid brought England back into the game by picking up the wickets of Rahane and Kohli in quick succession during the final session.

Here’s a look at five big stats from the day’s play.
