Bangladesh cricketers, who had gone on a strike since Monday, reportedly called it off, close to midnight on Wednesday, 23 October, following a meeting with the board and other officials.
The players’ decision came after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the players’ association assured them that nearly all their demands will be met, according to a Cricinfo report.
All-rounder Shakib al Hasan, who led the players has however said they will be fully satisfied only when all their demands are met.
In Wednesday’s meeting, the players added two more demands to the original 11: the BCB must share a percentage of their revenue with them and it should also ensure equal pay for women cricketers.
The strike that began on Monday afternoon with the centrally contracted and first-class cricketers, even attracted those from Dhaka's first division league on Wednesday.
Bangladesh national and first-class players on Monday announced a strike calling for better pay and benefits. The initial 11 demands included a 50 percent pay hike for first-class players, the expansion of national pay contracts, increased match fees in domestic four-day and 50-over games, and better benefits for grounds staff.
The decision to withdraw the strike also clears decks for the team’s upcoming India tour which had come under cloud. Bangladesh are due to play three Twenty20 internationals and two Tests in India next month.
