Kidambi Srikanth sailed into the second round of the China Open after defeating Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke 21-9, 21-19 on Wednesday, 19 September. The seventh seed will next take on World no 28 Suppanyu Avihingsanon in the pre-quarters of the men’s singles event.

Earlier in the day, the men’s doubles pair of Sarwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa registered a 21-13, 22-22, 21-17 win over World no 12 pair of Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith in the first round.

In the women’s singles event, Saina Nehwal crashed out after losing to South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun in the first round, while PV Sindhu entered the pre-quarters on 18 September.
