A shocking end to the hockey campaign for the Indian men’s team at the 18th Asian Games as the Malaysian vodoo strikes them again for the second time in the inter-continental competition.
Eight years ago in the 2010 Guangzhou Asiad, India were defeated in the semi-finals clash against Malaysia by a scoreline of 4-3.
India on Thursday, 30 August, lost in a nerve-wrecking sudden deaths, after scorelines were tied at the end of regulation time and the penalty shoot-outs.
After being tied at 2-2 at the end of the 60 minutes, five rounds of shoot-out followed in which the score remained 1-1.
In the end of the sudden-death it was SV Sunil who missed his shot, knocking out the defending champions India, by a scoreline of 7-6.

Twitter reacted in shock and horror after the loss.
Joining others on Twitters, Ayaz Memon posted calling the result as an upset as big as India’s defeat in Kabaddi.
Some took the loss hard, stating that India are never great against top oppositions.
Interestingly technical director of the Malaysian team was Terry Walsh who was sacked after India’s 2014 Asian Games outing in which the team had clinched gold.
