Asiad Silver Medallist Dutee Chand Returns Home to Grand Reception

Dutee Chand joined the legendary PT Usha in the list of athletes who have won more than one medal at the Asiad.

Asian Games silver medallist Dutee Chand returned to Bhubaneshwar to a rousing welcome on Friday. She was received at the airport with much fanfare and was elated to get such a reception.

Dutee Chand joined the legendary PT Usha in the list of athletes who have won more than one medal at the Asian Games.

I am very happy that I won two silver medals at the Asiad in women’s 100m and 200m. I want to thank everybody for their blessings which helped me to excel. I will continue my training to ensure that I continue winning medals in the future.

The Odisha Government on Thursday had announced an additional Rs 1.5 crore cash reward for Dutee Chand after she bagged a silver in the 200 metre event at the Asian Games, 2018 in Jakarta on Wednesday. Earlier the government had also announced a reward of Rs 1.5 crore after Dutee won the silver in the 100 metre event. Apart from the cash award, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the State Government would support Dutee in her preparation for Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Dutee won her first silver in women's 100m event, which was India’s first medal in 20 years in the event on Sunday. Running in lane number 7, Dutee clocked 11.32 seconds, a tad below her national record of 11.29 seconds.

Two days later, Dutee bagged her second silver medal at the 18th Asian Games after finishing second in the women's 200 metres race on Wednesday. On this occasion Dutee had clocked 23.20 seconds.
