It was a mixed bag of results for the Indian shooters on Day 1 of the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia on Sunday, 19 August.

Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar won India’s first medal at this year’s quadrennial event. The pair bagged a bronze in the 10m Air Rifle mixed team event with an aggregate of 429.9 after 42 shots in the 48-shot final.

They were in the second spot for major part of the 48-shot finals before China overtook them to take the silver.

Earlier, Kumar and Chandela had finished second in the qualification with a total score of 835.3. Both shooters fired 40 shots each in the 50-minute session.

In the other mixed team event of the day, there was disappointment in store for teen sensation Manu Bhaker and Abhishek Verma, who failed to qualify for the pistol mixed team finals after being tied with Kazakhstan.
