Jayant Yadav has been the find for Team India in the ongoing series against England. The 22-year-old, who earned his Test cap as India’s 286th cricketer in Vizag, has shown great skill with the ball and plenty with the bat too, in the two Tests he’s played. He’s taken 8 wickets and scored 117 in the three innings he’s played (including a 50!)

Since his first-class debut in 2011, Yadav’s progress has been steady. After some stand-out performances for Haryana in the Ranji Trophy, he was selected to play for India A, before earning his first India call-up in 2016 during the tour of Zimbabwe.

Here’s a look at five facts from Jayant Yadav’s cricketing journey so far.

#1 - Jayant’s Six-For in His Debut First-Class Match

Representing Haryana in 2011, a 21-year-old Jayant made his debut in first-class cricket against Gujarat. And his six-wicket haul led to Haryana’s win in the match.

#2 - Record-Breaking Partnership With Amit Mishra

The first major landmark of Jayant’s career came a year later, when he scored a 211 against Karnataka in 2012, sharing a record-breaking 392-run partnership for the eight wicket with Amit Mishra.

With 33 wickets and a career-best 13-wicket haul against Saurashtra, Jayant was Haryana’s best bowler during the 2014-15 Ranji season. The next season, he shared a 206-run partnership with Virender Sehwag, who had moved to Haryana from Delhi.

#3 - Played for India A Under Rahul Dravid

in 2015, picked for the India A home series against South Africa A and Bangladesh A, Jayant shone again, taking 14 wickets in three matches. Much to the delight of his coach, Rahul Dravid.

Playing for India A during their Australia tour in August-September 2015, he picked up seven wickets in two matches. In March 2016, Jayant took 4-132 and 4-93 in Rest of India's Irani Cup win over Mumbai. He was also unbeaten on 19 when his side completed their historic chase of 480. Jayant also signed a Rs 10 lakh contract with Delhi Daredevils. Scooped up by his India A coach, Dravid.

#4 - First India Call-up

Replacing Hardik Pandya, Jayant made his international debut at Vizag in India’s 2016 series-deciding ODI match against New Zealand, picking up his first international wicket in the form of Corey Anderson.

And then, at the same stadium, Jayant played his first Test match against England. He took four wickets and scored 35 and 27* in the two innings. Jayant's performance in the second innings was lauded by many. The Haryana lad got a three-for, which included the winning wicket.

#5 - ‘Proud’ Uncle Yogendra Yadav

Jayant, who was born in Delhi, also happens to be the nephew of former AAP leader Yogendra Yadav. A day after his debut in Vizag, the proud uncle tweeted his best wishes to Jayant and later congratulated him and the team on their win against England.
