For India’s Millennials, Dipa Karmakar Most Inspiring Indian Woman

In a recent online poll, Karmakar picked up 33.7 per cent of the votes.

Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who was lauded for her performance at Rio Olympics, is the most inspiring Indian woman, according to a survey.

Shaadi.com, a matchmaking service, recently conducted a survey to understand the definition of success for millennials. The survey was conducted online with over 12,500 responses from Indians (married and unmarried) with ages ranging from 23 to 30 years, according to a statement.

When millennials were asked about “Which Indian woman inspires them the most” in the recent past, 33.7 per cent said Karmakar, followed by 27.4 per cent who said wrestler Sakshi Malik, 27.1 per cent said shuttler P.V. Sindhu and 6.2 per cent said Arundhati Bhattacharya.

And when asked about the “Most Engaging Woman on Social Media”, 36.3 per cent voted for External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, followed by 31.2 per cent for actress Priyanka Chopra and 17.4 per cent for tennis star Sania Mirza.
