Forty-one-year-old Satnam Singh was from Bhojraj village in Gurdaspur, Punjab. According to his brother, Satnam “Always wished to serve the nation and sacrifice his life in the battlefield”. Despite living in harsh conditions himself, he was more worried about the well-being of his loved ones. His 65-year-old mother, Kashmir Kaur, and 19-year-old daughter carried his coffin proudly on their shoulders for his last rites. Satnam Singh served in the Indian Army for 25 years with the motto of 'duty first'.
