35-year-old Bipul Roy was always passionate about joining the army and eventually joined at 19 years of age, in the year 2005.

Roy was originally from Bindipara village in Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal.

During the initial years of service, he got married to Rumpa in 2011 and the couple had a daughter named Tamanna. He is survived by his parents, wife and a daughter, Roy had served for around 15 years in the army.

He had made arrangements to stay in Meerut in a rented accommodation before heading for the border. Roy last spoke to his wife on 9 June over the phone.
