Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti got emotional after hearing her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s voice in a video for Kashmir Tourism.
Speaking at the Bharat International Tourism Bazar function in Delhi, Mufti said her state was safer for women than Delhi. “There is no fear of getting raped in a car,” she asserted. She said her state offered safety for tourist women.
Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra however asked how she can “not accept Burhan Wani as a terrorist” and still expect tourism to increase?
Mishra’s comments, directed at Mufti, invited protests from her entourage.
Mishra left the venue, saying he does not want to share the dais with her after he was forced to stop his address following strong protests from some in the audience and officials accompanying Mufti.
He later said:
I met Mehbooba Mufti for the first time, I asked her four questions over Burhan Wani, Afzal Guru, soldiers at LoC and JNU. If she won’t, then BJP has to reply why people who don’t love the nation and aren’t ready to recognise terrorists as terrorists are given power.
He called out the BJP-PDP alliance, asking why the Centre needed to be in cohorts with people who “support terrorism.”
He went on to clarify that he wasn’t questioning Mufti’s election, but was questioning her stand on the issue.
