Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been appointed the Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East ahead of the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Reacting to the development Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, “She is a dynamic yuva (youth) neta. I am personally very happy that we will be working closely together.”
Senior Congress leader Motilal Vohra too termed the appointment an important one and said, “The responsibility given to Priyanka is very important. This will not only have an effect on eastern Uttar Pradesh, but also other regions.”
Comparing Priyanka Gandhi to her grandmother Indira Gandhi, National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah said that he is confident of Priyanka’s success.
Speaking to News18, Abdullah said, “This young lady has good vibrations and she is nearly like her grandmother. People in India will love her, will want her to lead forward the party and help her brother. She will make a great success.”
Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot tweeted, “Heartfelt greetings and best wishes for Mrs. Priyanka Gandhi on being appointed secretary in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh. I wish you a bright future.”

Congratulating Priyanka, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said that she will help in reviving the Congress not only in Uttar Pradesh but in the entire country. According to Shukla she will take charge after 1 February.
Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath told PTI that Priyanka Gandhi’s appointment was “long overdue” and “in the offing for about six months.”
“This will be a big boost for the party in a state as important as Uttar Pradesh,” Kamal Nath said.
BJP Calls the News “Un-Eventful”
As the incharge of eastern UP, Priyanka will be managing the party’s campaign in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Parliamentary seat, which falls in the region.
Reacting to the development, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao called it the “MOST UN-EVENTFUL NEWS of 2019” .
Calling it ‘dynasty politics’, BJP leader Sambit Patra said that the party has accepted Rahul’s ‘failure’ and announced the appointment.
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Priyanka ji has become General Secy, my good luck to her. Since party is a family concern, these kinds of postings are nothing unusual, except to say with a caveat, why she has been given limited role of only Eastern UP? Perhaps, her persona merited a wider role for her,” he said.
BJP UP in-charge JP Nadda said this means that Congress has admitted to Rahul Gandhi’s failure.

Other than Priyanka Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindia has been appointed as the General Secretary for UP West. KC Venugopal has been appointed as the AICC General Secretary (Organisation), replacing Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, the previous AICC General Secretary for UP will now be the AICC General Secretary for Haryana.
