Ravi Ashwin claimed three wickets in his first seven deliveries and finished with 4-8, best by an Indian bowler in this format.
India have now won two T20 series already this year - against Australia and now Sri Lanka.
The team next move on to the Asia Cup in Bangladesh before the big World T20 at home in March and April.
