The state of Kerala has had no respite from the rains that have been causing havoc in the state over the past one week, taking the lives of at least 79 people. Thousands are displaced and left homeless.
Massive rescue operations have been underway in the state. The public transportation system also collapsed on Thursday, 16 August.
A red alert issued in all fourteen districts as areas were heavily flooded.
Landslides left many people stranded, leaving bheind a trail of devastation.
Defence Ministry Lends Helping Hand
In massive relief work efforts, the Indian Coast Guard provided an additional 20 boats to rescue the people of Kerala, diving and relief teams of Indian navy and 12 more boats with Disaster Response teams were also deployed.
