In Pics: Delhi’s Street Art Festival Leaves Lodhi Colony Magical

New Delhi’s Lodhi Colony looks like a magical world of contemporary art.

Dilliwalon, gather your selfie devices and your amazing cameras because in the heart of your city, there are opportunities to take photos of yourselves looking cool against some magnificent wall art.

St+art Festival is a collaborative platform for street artists from India and around the world. It works on the idea of ‘Art for Everyone’ with the primary objective of making art accessible to wider audiences while having a positive impact on society.

"Omnia Videns" by Mexican artist @senkoeone for WIP, is a part of 18 massive installations created by international and national artists, using a total number of 100 containers. Over 20 artists gathered in the capital to transform the bland walls of Lodhi Colony into a colourful wonderland. The fourth edition of the ‘St+art’ event in Delhi organised it in such a way that Lodhi colony is now an open-air public art gallery.

Hopefully, after completion, this will fuel the growth of street art in India and will also open up the idea of choosing art as a career for the younger generation.

"Amma" by Blaise. For his wall in Lodhi Colony, Indian artist Blaise chose to make the portrait of a mother figure who has diverse manifestations. As mother nature, she is carrying the memories of lost lands... in an urban context, our cities which are becoming concrete jungles are inhabited, by people who are all, in some ways migrants and hence the concrete jungle reminds them of their own mothers and mother nature represented in forests and agricultural lands, who they have been compelled to leave behind. She also represents indigenous communities who are pollinators and can sustain ecological diversity with the knowledge they possess, yet who are forced to be displaced from their homelands. 'Vishvaroopa' by @inkbrushnme In this piece Inkbrushnme continues to explore concepts of Indian mythology which are a recurring theme in his work. Vishvaroopa is an all encompassing omni form of Vishnu and marks the beginning of 18 day battle of Mahabharata. Vishnu manifests in his cosmic grandeur hypnotising Arjuna, the supreme warrior and shows him that all universal matter, animate and inanimate is him. Bangkok based artist @rukkit painted this mural of an eagle, with its majestic gaze towards the sky and the city, during St+art Delhi 2015. The mural incorporates his favorite multicolored graphic approach and can be found near H block parking, outer circle, Connaught place.
