80 kilometres apart, while one side of the border rejoiced a new milestone in US-Israel relations, the other side witnessed an eight-month year old lose the ‘battle’ for life.

Laila Anwar-al-Ghandour, an eight-month-old baby, died after inhaling tear-gas fired by Israeli forces at the Gaza-Israel border during clashes over the inauguration of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem. Laila was the youngest fatality in the violent clashes which claimed 58 lives.

It wasn’t just the Palestinians who were the victims of the unrest. Journalists, who were present to cover the clashes were also attacked.

Hoda Abdel-Hamid, an Al Jazeera journalist hada narrow escape after being hit by a sniper. She posted videos of the incidents on her twitter account.

Palestinians seek east Jerusalem as their capital but with Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, they feel that the United States is siding with Israel. According to AP, the Palestinians have cut off all ties with the Trump administration and have said that the U.S. is unfit to serve as a mediator.

At the inauguration ceremony, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “You can only build peace on truth, and the truth is that Jerusalem has been and will always be the capital of the Jewish people, the capital of the Jewish state,”
