William, Kate Reach Pak for 1st Royal Visit to Nation in 13 Years
Prince William and Kate Middleton landed in Pakistan late in the evening on Monday, 14 October, kicking off their four-day official visit to the country, which will last till 18 October.
According to Geo News, the royal couple touched down at the Pakistan Air Force's (PAF) Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, near Islamabad. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew, officials from the Foreign Office, and top government officials received them at the red carpet.
This is the first royal visit to Pakistan in 13 years.
The royal couple, after the completion of their tour of Pakistan, will return to Britain on 18 October, sources said.
‘Waiting to Welcome Royal Couple’
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday said that Pakistan is awaiting to welcome the royal couple.
Qureshi met with UK High Commissioner Thomas Drew on Friday, where he made the statement regarding the royal couple's visit to Pakistan.
Queen Elizabeth II visited Pakistan twice in 1961 and 1997. Her first visit took place at the height of the Cold War when Pakistan was very close to the western world.
Later, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall visited Pakistan in 2006.
