North Korean Diplomat, Wife Allegedly Assaulted by Pak Officials

A North Korean diplomat and his wife were allegedly physically assaulted by Pakistani excise officials in their Karachi residence on 9 April 2017.

According to documents received by Geo TV in connection to the incident, the North Korean Embassy in a letter to the Government of Pakistan and the Excise Department, requested for necessary action to be taken against the officials by concerned authorities.

The diplomat sustained injuries on is elbows, legs, wrists and ankles, while his wife was injured on her face, head and wrists, reported Geo TV. The woman was further tortured by female officials, who allegedly pulled her by her hair and trained a gun to her face.

While an investigation into the assault has been launched by the Excise Department, the reason behind the torture is yet unknown. Meanwhile, the North Korean Embassy has stated that the incident could sour diplomatic relations between the two countries.
