Through Raj Singh Brayana’s donation, four homes have been built for poor families in Punjab.

Raj Singh Brayana, a UK-based Indian, wanted to build homes for the poor in India. But his cancer caught up with him before he could fulfil his wish. Brayana died at the age of 39, reported Hindustan Times.

Before his death, however, he told his family to not waste money on his last rites. Instead, as per his wishes, his family donated money to Khalsa Aid, an international relief work organisation "founded on the Sikh concept of seva (selfless service)."

The NGO spent 50 percent of the Rs 30 lakh Brayana's family donated in building four homes for the poor in Punjab – three in Malerkotla's Gonspura Village and one in Faridkot.

Gurmail Kaur, a widow, Malkeat Singh, a labourer and Mohammad Saleem, who could not afford pucca houses of their own, now have a concrete roof over their heads, a bathroom and a kitchen.

The remaining 50 percent of the donation was used for water pumps in Africa.

My husband had a spent lot of time in social service. He did not want to waste money on unnecessary rituals. Indeed, he was a rational person and inspired us to take the initiative.
Manj Brayana, the deceased NRI’s wife told Hindustan Times
