India on Monday, 3 May, reported 3,68,147 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the country to 1,99,25,604. The death toll increased by 3,417 to 2,18,959.
According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are currently 34,13,642 active cases across the country, while 1,62,93,003 patients have been discharged, with 3,00,732 discharges reported in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, as many as 24 patients, including those who had contracted COVID-19, have died at the Chamarajanagar District Hospital in 24 hours allegedly due to oxygen shortage.

Chandigarh Imposes Curbs Amid COVID Surge
With a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Chandigarh administration on Monday decided to shut all shops selling non-essential items for a week from 5 p.m. on Tuesday till May 11 early morning.
The night curfew will continue daily from 6 pm to 5 am with a total weekend curfew on Saturday and Sunday.
There will be no restriction on interstate movement, but random testing will be done of those who enter the city without a COVID-negative report or the vaccine certificate.
Also, movement of vehicles will be allowed during daytime.
PM Modi Reviews COVID-Related Initiatives by Indian Navy
The Indian Navy is transporting oxygen containers as well as other essential supplies from Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Singapore to India, Navy chief Admiral Karambir Singh told Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday during a review meeting on the COVID-related initiatives undertaken by the force.
Admiral Singh informed the Prime Minister about the various initiatives being taken by the Indian Navy to assist the countrymen during the pandemic.
He informed the Prime Minister that the Indian Navy has reached out to all the state administrations, offering help in terms of hospital beds, transportation and other such things.
Centre to Allow Deployment of Final Year MBBS Students for COVID Duties
Amid a COVID surge, PM Modi on Monday took some key decisions to boost availability of medical personnel in fighting COVID-19.
He said that the final year MBBS students and BSc GNM-qualified nurses can be deployed for COVID duties, and added the medical personnel completing 100 days of COVID duties will be given priority in forthcoming regular government recruitments.
UP Extends Partial Curfew By 2 More Days
The Uttar Pradesh state government ordered the extension of the ongoing partial corona curfew by two more days until 7am on Thursday.
