The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, and musician Elton John together launched MenStar Coalition at the International Aids Conference 2018 in Amsterdam.MenStar Coalition is a 1.2-billion-dollar initiative to break the HIV transmission cycle in men through testing and treatment. It has set a target of eliminating the AIDS epidemic by 2030. Both Prince Harry and Elton John are HIV and AIDS campaigners, and have been part of various panel discussions.Seven groups fighting to eradicate AIDS have come together for this coalition. These include the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Gilead and the US government’s PEPFAR programme. The first project on their list will be to encourage young men in Kenya for self-testing.Prince Harry, at the conference, spoke about issues youngsters living with HIV face in Southern Africa. The Duke of Sussex is the co-founder of the Africa-based charity Sentebale. Founded in 2006, it provides mental health support to people affected by HIV in South Africa. On the first day of his visit, he also joined Sentebale’s ‘Let Youth Lead’ advocates in the discussion on HIV AIDS.We can’t solve the whole problem if we only address part of the solution.
