The Duchess of Sussex recently opened up on her struggle to deal with British tabloid press’ involvement in her life and how not many people asked her if she is doing okay.
In an interview to ITV for its recent documentary, "Harry & Meghan: An African Journey," Meghan Markle said she tried to cope by putting on a "stiff upper lip" but she was not prepared for the intensity of tabloid interest. She described the past year “hard”.
The US-born former actress’ comments come after the couple launched legal action this month against British tabloid the ‘Mail on Sunday’ for invasion of privacy.
‘Was Naive About British Tabloid Press,’ Says Meghan
Meghan admitted she was naive about the British tabloid press and said she was warned they "will destroy your life".
She is heard saying in the interview clip that as an American she "very naively" didn't know about tabloids and "didn't get it".
“When I first met my now-husband my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life’.”Meghan, Duchess of Sussex
On whether she is able to cope with the stress surrounding the press attention, Meghan said it is not enough to survive as the point of life is to thrive.
“In all honesty I have said for a long time to H -- that is what I call him -- it’s not enough to just survive something, that’s not the point of life. You have got to thrive.”
