Justin Trudeau Celebrates Baisakhi, Issues Komagata Maru Apology
If there’s one world leader who has won the heart of millions, it has to be Justin Trudeau. The Prime Minister of Canada recently celebrated Baisakhi with the Sikhs of Canada.
He was even presented with a ceremonial sword which, was presented by the Sikh Canadian community in Ottawa.
Formal Apology for 1914 Komagata Maru Incident
Almost 102 years after Canada turned away more than 376 migrants, mostly Sikhs from India, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will formally apologise on 18 May for the incident that happened due to “discriminatory laws of the time”.
He said at the Baisakhi celebration in Ottawa on Monday that the Komagata Maru’s passengers (steamship) were seeking refuge and better lives, ‘like millions of immigrants to Canada since’.
Trudeau Does the Balle Balle
Trudeau, who has four Sikhs in his cabinet, is known to support the Indian culture thoroughly. He’s such a strong supporter that he even did some Bhangra. Here’s proof:
