  • Shooting and bomb attacks claimed by Islamic State have killed at least 16 people in northern Iraq on Friday.
  • The worst hit has been the predominately Shi’ite Muslim town of Balad, where three gunmen opened fire with machine guns at a cafe around midnight. Police and hospital sources say at least 12 were killed and 25 were wounded in the attack.
  • This comes on the heels of the deadly suicide attacks on Wednesday that saw attackers set off three bombs in Baghdad, killing at least 80 people in the process.
